The most Christmas fairy tale
The Nutcracker on Ice is by far the most popular program of any ice show. And the Moscow Circus on Ice, as the name implies, is both an ice show and a circus show. In our shows, acrobats, jugglers, gymnasts, clowns and equilibrists work in skates throughout the show. This feature of ours, as well as the multi-genre orientation of the artists, leaves its mark on our production of The Nutcracker. And gives her her unique charm.
Since its premiere in 1892, The Nutcracker has gone through many adaptations. For all these years, it seems, only the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky has always remained outside the brackets of endless plot and genre variations. By the end of the sixties of the last century, the production had become a recognized classic. Almost every creative team has in its arsenal a special based on this work. It is customary to demonstrate these specials on Christmas Eve, since the Nutcracker is one of the most Christmas fairy tales in the world. But the composition is so highly imaginative that it can immerse you in the atmosphere of a Christmas miracle at any time of the year.
The Nutcracker by Moscow Circus on Ice
It all starts with an unusual gift that Dr. Stahlmbaum’s daughter Marie receives for the Christmas. A little man in a uniform with a long body and a disproportionate head is the Nutcracker. While the other kids laugh and mock Nutcracker’s stupid expression, Marie gets imbued by him. And he becomes her favorite doll. When the clock strikes midnight, the doll comes to life. And along with him, all the other dolls of Marie and her brother Fritz. Marie gets to know the dolls and learns about their fairyland and the threat that looms over her.
The fact is that her beloved doll is actually an enchanted prince. And in order to break the ancient spell, the Nutcracker needs to defeat an entire army of mice led by the Giant Mouse King. Otherwise, the Mouse King will simply tear him to pieces, and the fate of the fairyland will be unenviable.
How Marie and the Nutcracker will cope with this mouse danger, you will see in our performance.
The creation of the Nutcracker
Work on the play lasted over a year. To fulfill their roles, many artists had to change their usual roles and master new circus genres. The Nutcracker is undoubtedly the longest and largest production of the Moscow Circus on Ice by Natalia Abramova. As they say, there was no happiness, but misfortune helped. In early 2020, the coronavirus pandemic swept the world, and almost all of our planned tours were canceled. Thanks to the Nikulin Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard, we were able to use the “free” time. In the good tradition of 2020, we were isolated at a rehearsal base for three months. The collective of the Moscow Circus on Ice, scene-director of the Nikulin Circus Natalya Viktorovna Makovskaya and choreographer Denis Lalakin. Together we lived a lifetime and completed this production. And as soon as the borders open, we will be able to show it to the whole world.
The performance speaks the universal language of music and choreography, which does not require translation. Like all of our shows, it is suitable for all ages. Bring parents and children with you.
